Google just dropped something pretty game-changing into Sheets: an "=AI" formula!

That's right, Gemini is now baked directly into your spreadsheets. This means you can process data in ways that were previously impossible, right within a cell.

Let me show you a few examples of what you can do.

1. Categorize

Imagine you have a list of items, and you need to sort them into categories. Before, this might have involved complex IF statements or manual sorting.

Now? Just ask the AI.

=AI can categorize your data based on your instructions, even referencing other cells.

For instance, if you have team names in column A:

Formula: =AI("Is this a basketball or baseball team?",A2)

It looks at the team name in cell A2 and tells you which sport it belongs to. Simple as that!

2. Sentiment analysis

This one is really cool. Need to know if customer feedback is positive or negative?

The =AI formula can interpret the text in a cell and determine the sentiment.

This was definitely not something you could easily do in a spreadsheet before.

Formula: =AI("Classify this sentence, as either positive or negative.", A2)

Just point it to the cell containing the feedback (like A2), and it will classify it for you. Perfect for quickly gauging reactions from a survey or reviews.

3. Summarize

Got cells full of text that you need to condense? Whether it's long notes, paragraphs of description, or feedback, =AI can help.

Using Gemini's power, it can summarize the content of another cell according to your specified format.

Formula: =AI("Summarize this info in 1 very short sentence",A2)

Feed it the cell with the text (A2 again in this example), and it returns a concise summary. Great for creating executive summaries or just getting the gist of long text entries quickly.

This "=AI" function really opens up new possibilities for analyzing and manipulating data directly within Google Sheets.

It's like having a data assistant built right into your spreadsheet.
