ChatGPT has received a great new update: it can now access the internet!

(In fact, it may have done so in the past, but the feature was removed... but is back now.)

This unlocks all kinds of cool new use cases that weren't possible before.

I'll show you how to activate the feature, then walk through 8 examples of how an internet-connected ChatGPT can be used!

Activate Internet Access

First things first - you need to enable web access in your ChatGPT Plus account settings:

Go to your account settings (at the bottom left, next to your email address)
Click on "Beta features"
Turn on "Browse with Bing"

Activate the email images to see the illustrations.

Once enabled, open a new chat and toggle the internet on for that conversation. The web integration works seamlessly behind the scenes.

Here are 8 ways to use an internet-connected ChatGPT:

1. Detect Trends in Real Time

Prompt: Provide a short analysis of the latest e-commerce trends and consumer behavior patterns in Q1 2023.

With internet access, ChatGPT can scan the latest news, data, and discussions to detect emerging trends in any industry or niche as they happen. This makes it an always up-to-date business analyst.

2. Write Content Using the Latest Info

Prompt: Analyze the popularity of Western and BRICS leaders in recent months and write a short blog post.

ChatGPT will instantly pull the most recent coverage and discussions around a topic to write fully up-to-date content and analysis.

No more worrying about stale information.

3. Analyze Stocks with Live Data

Prompt: Based on Apple and Microsoft's latest financial results, how might their share prices evolve in the coming weeks?

By connecting directly to live market data, ChatGPT can now generate informed, reasoned forecasts about future stock price movements to aid your investing decisions.

4. Adapt to Weather and Current Events

Prompt: Look at the weather forecast for the French Alps. Tell me what I should pack for a 3-day hike.

ChatGPT will check the latest weather projections and factor real-world conditions into its recommendations.

This applies for upcoming events too - it customizes responses to the world around you!

5. Summarize New Research Papers

Prompt: Summarize the key findings from the latest exoplanet research published in Nature last week.

Rather than reading lengthy new studies yourself, ChatGPT will digest the core discoveries and breakthroughs so you can stay knowledgeable with a fraction of the effort.

6. Check Real-Time Opinions

Prompt: What are people on Reddit saying about OpenAI's new image generator DALL-E 3?

ChatGPT can now pulse-check opinions and feedback on something as they emerge by analyzing discussions across the social web.

No more trawling through forums yourself!

7. Code with Up-To-Date Documentation

Prompt: Use the latest Chrome extension documentation to write a manifest.json file.

Your code will automatically follow modern standards and best practices as ChatGPT leverages the newest documentation and references to guide its output.

8. Cite Reliable Web Sources

Prompt: Explain the Berlin Wall's security in the 1980s, citing your sources.

ChatGPT will list the websites it used to compile its response so you can verify the quality of sources yourself - bringing more transparency.

This can be very useful for academic research, for example, which needs a certain level of reliability in its sources.

It's almost a small revolution to no longer be stuck with the data limit of the end of 2021 in ChatGPT.

It opens up lots of new possibilities and I'm sure you'll be able to find better ones than me haha!
